No Plastic Bags from the Queens Co Library

Queens Library Bag Close Up

This does not enrich my life

The Queens County Library had a circulation of 23 million in 2009.

The Queens County Library is almost completely taxpayer funded by every NYC taxpayer.

The Queens County Library offers a plastic bag to each person checking out a book, CD or DVD.

The other libraries in NYC do not give out plastic bags.

Help us stop the Queens County Library from spending our tax money on plastic bags by clicking here http://action.surfrider.org/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=5719

In addition to taking individual action above, we are building a coalition of organizations that oppose single-use plastic bags as well.  Thank you to the following organizations who have already joined the fight . . .

American Littoral Society

Center for Health, Environment and Justice

Edison Wetlands Association

Environment New York

Fishermen’s Conservation Association

Friends of Brook Park

Jamaica Bay Ecowatchers

Lower East Side Ecology Center

Natural Resources Protective Association

The Surfrider Foundation is currently focusing on a campaign to get rid of single use plastic bags in New York City. They are targeting the Queens County Library which is the only library in New York City to give out plastic bags to library patrons. The Surfrider Foundation is asking the public to write a message to the Queens Library, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Mayor Michael Bloomberg to get them to ban single use plastic bags in all of New York City. They are also asking for the support of local and national organizations. [...]
