Celebrate International Surfing Day with Surfrider NYC June 18

The New York Chapter will be hitting Rockaway Beach to celebrate International Surf Day this Saturday, June 18 from 10 am to 1 pm. Come stop by our table at Beach 90th Street and hang out. There are other local events that day — the ESA surf contest, a swap meet at Beach 96th and bands as part of Rockstock and Barrels Festival — there’s something for everyone.

10 am Spike Ball — Get your workout done with this fun, volleyball-esque game on the beach.

11 am Beach Clean Up w/ Sprout Watches — We’re picking up the trash before it winds up in the ocean — or animals eat it! The chapter’s “No Butts” campaign continues as New Yorkers are still adjusting to the smoking ban on parks and beaches.

12 — Remarks and give-aways

And there’s lots to do all day. The Eastern Surfing Association’s surf contest starts at 8 am. The application is here. Beach 96th Str. will be pedestrian only and a swap meet will be held from noon to 3:00 pm. And the annual Rockstock and Barrels Festival goes from 10:30 to 3:00 pm.

See you on the beach!
