LNG Rally: Help us Tell Gov. Cuomo no to LNG!
When: Thursday, March 20th, 2014 | 5:30pm
Where: The Dream Downtown Hotel, 355 West 16th Street, Manhattan

As many of you are aware, there is a proposal to build a deep water port for the import/export of liquefied natural gas (LNG) off the coast of New York (known as Port Ambrose LNG facility). This involves digging a trench under Riis Park Beach and Jamaica Bay dredging up over 20 miles of seafloor. The port itself, which will be south of Jones Beach and connect to a pipeline south of Atlantic beach, will excrete 3.5 million gallons of chemically treated sea water and generate underwater noise pollution. The environmental impact this will have will be devastating to our oceans and wildlife and also encourage the expansion of fracking which comes with its own list of concerns. Clean Ocean Action has a great fact sheet if you would like more detailed information.

We cannot stand by and watch this happen! As a member of the Surfrider Foundation we have accepted the responsibility to protect our oceans- to protect what we love.

On March 20th, Governor Andrew Cuomo will be attending a fundraiser in NYC- we will be there too, rallying for him to veto the proposed Port Ambrose LNG facility and ban fracking. We strongly urge you to join us as our opposition is best conveyed when Surfrider has a physical presence in front of the decision makers. This is our opportunity to be heard!

When: Thursday, March 20th, 2014 | 5:30pm

Where: The Dream Downtown Hotel, 355 West 16th Street, Manhattan

Please email Nikita Scott, LNG Rep (onsite point o f contact)- campaign.rep(at)nyc.surfrider.com if you plan to attend or would like some more information.

Get involved. After all, opportunities like this, to really make a difference, are the reason why you joined Surfrider!

See you Thursday.
